Teacher lesson plan
Learning goal
Choose and revise visual features to express an idea.
Before teaching
Can make or direct intentional marks or arrangements.
Model
Choose an idea, such as a busy place. Show how line, shape, texture, and placement can convey it. Explain a choice without presenting a product everyone must copy.
Guide, then apply
Children plan an idea, make a work, tell a partner what to notice, and choose whether to revise. Discuss different interpretations respectfully. Use an adult-written artist statement if desired.
Interpret the response
Evaluate intentional choice and explanation, not realism or resemblance to an adult model. A changed intention can be a thoughtful revision.
Support
Offer varied tools, large paper, collage, tactile material, or a partner who follows the child’s directions.
Extend when ready
Use the same subject with a different expressive intention and explain how the choices changed.
Fresh check
Invite a new work with a chosen message. Ask which feature communicates it and what a viewer noticed.
Teacher plans PDF: page 26. Record exact support and revisit the idea later.
